10 Marketing Tips for any Business

The following are just some of the many ways you can drive traffic to your website(s), product, blog, or services. Several of these are FREE ADVERTISING techniques that can make all the difference in your online business success.

Without boring you with the mushy details, here they are:

  1. Create Free Social Networking Sites (i.e. Twitter, MySpace, Hi5, Facebook, etc...) - once you spend some time sending out friend requests, joining some groups that correlate with your products or services, you can drop a "Tweet", or a quick message to group boards or friends. *You don't want to abuse the privilege, so try to not to 'spam', but rather encourage, equip, educate and inform like minded people of your services.
  2. Create a personal website, choose a domain and hosting. I personally use HostGator.com but there are several inexpensive and reliable hosting sites available. Having a personal domain name and website definitely shows you are serious about your business or services, and in today's technological age...it's a necessity!
  3. Free Advertising/Classified Sites: -Simply Google "Free Classified Ads" or "Free Advertising" and you'll open a gateway of global resources that will allow you to target local traffic, national traffic, or global visitor's alike. Take the time to write quality scripted ads, and always include a direct link to your website, blog, or product's landing page(s).
  4. Start A Blog: Blogger.com is a great platform for reaching your audience, and enables you to publish web content quick and easy with little or no HTML (computer programming) experience. Also, you can add innumerable widgets, such as; newsletter opt-ins, Kontactr.com secure email receptions, add pics, links, and even a shopping cart.
  5. Affiliate Marketing: - Sign up for similar products and services through CommissionJunction.com or Linkshare.com as they too can generate additional streams of income, and can educate you by providing valuable tools, banners, creatives, and broaden your understanding of marketing online. Many offer generous commissions simply for cutting and pasting a few ads on your site(s) or blog(s).
  6. Register to "ALL" major Search Engines: - Many people do not realize the importance of indexing and having your site crawled for content and keyword recognition. This is more over SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and is a continually growing importance to getting ranked on major websites. Get ranked, get hits, convert sales!
  7. Content and Keywords: - This is an important step in being seen by the world, as search engines are getting increasingly more intelligent regarding the optimal keyword recognition is in direct correllation to relevance and importance of your content. If you are selling a specific product, be sure to define the product thoroughly, include exact product info in titles and throughout your articals, and provide as much information as possible using relevance and descriptions of how to use, prepare, locate, etc... if and whenever possible.
  8. Analytics: - Determine the strength of your website by utilizing GoogleAnalytics.com or Statcounter.com which enables you to determine the visitor path, exit links, downloaded info, location, vistor's time on site...and much, much, more. This is a great way to determine what pages your visitor's are reviewing, and even tracks the products, links, and exit paths they use to leave your site. *Highly recommend familarizing yourself with using analytic and tracking.
  9. Learn basic Web functions: - It is not necessary to know the totality of computer programming, nor do you need a bachelor's degree in computer science to operate your online business. However, it surely helps to know basic HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, and How it works. Most importantanly, learning to post links, redirect traffic, copying, and pasting banner ads, creatives, and premade templates can be 'tricky' to the newcomer...but W3Schools.com  is an excellent resource for those who need help.
  10. Keep it Simple: - By performing some simple searches, doing product and market research you can save yourself alot of guesswork. In short, if you are marketing a specific product or service and want creative ways to be more successful, just look at what successful people are doing. Study the way they write their ads, build their websites, and always complete a Google Search before jumping into an opportunity online. Take that extra minute to review the tools, resources, software, or websites your considering investing your time or money into. You'd be suprised what the first 5 hit will reveal.
*Naturally, if you truly want to succeed online, build a reputation for deliver quality merchandise or services. Inform your visitor's and guide them to the tools and resources you use and consider to be credible affiliates. Build partnerships and backlinks with sites that compliment your product line or service, and always keep an interest on the long-term gain rather than the quick-buck or get rich quick schemes.

You'd be surprised, when you find something you're passionate about, have a personal interest in, or that just simply rocks and can provide others with the items of their desires, success can feel as if it happened in minutes.

From my personal experience, try not to take on too much at once. When I started, I was all over the map trying to figure out how the entire matrix worked so I could dominate it! Sadly, 2 years later, and I'm still learning how to assemble all the pieces I found along the way. It takes time, effort, and a sincere investment of both. Many opportunities do not require massive financial committments, but rather time and effort.

In closing, starting an online business (in my opinion) has far more promise concerning a return on your investment (ROI) than shelling out tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars opening a burger joint, laundromat, bar & grille, or even a smaller Mom and Pop type service or business.
