Avon’s History:

In 1886 David H. McConnell was selling books door to door. As an act of persuasion to gain the interest of potential female clients, McConnell was known to give away perfume samples to entice them to purchase his books.

 Soon, McConnell came to the realization that his perfume had surpassed the demand for his books, and he founded The California Perfume Company in New York.

Nearly 20 years later, The California Perfume Company was officially incorporated on January 28, 1916 by David H. McConnell and Alexander D. Henderson located in Suffern, New York

The California Perfume Company had sold over 5 million units of perfume by January 1928, and had surpassed $2 Million in sales. After a visit to The United Kingdom, McConnell liked the town so much that he decided to name his company after the town.

 It wasn’t until October 1939; McConnell electively changed the company name to Avon Products, Inc. Inspired by his visit to Stratford-upon-Avon, UK.

Thus, the Avon name was born.

Avon Today:

Currently, Avon Products, Inc. is known for the selling of toys, household, and personal products.

Avon’s  tenured CEO; Angela Jung has maintained her position at Avon, and has earned a great deal of respect in the corporate world, as she is recognized for having held a CEO position among Fortune 500 companies for over a decade.

Avon Products, Inc. has surpassed excellence, and to date has sold in excess of $10 Billion Dollars in sales in over 140 countries. The company recently spent a whopping $100 Million to build their 225,000 sq. ft. R & D (research and development) Facility built upon the original site in Suffern, New York. That facility employs over 300 scientists who work to enhance Avon’s ever-expanding product line, and generate new highly demanded personal use products.

They recently received the LEED Gold Certificate for their state of the art distribution facility located in Zanesville, Ohio and continue to preserve their integrity in the direct sales marketing platform.
